What is Poly-B

Poly-B was banned in 1998 so if your house is older than this and you’ve never upgraded your plumbing system there is a good chance your house has Poly-B. This material was manufactured in the 1970’s and was the main product installed in most homes during that time period. While this was predicted to be the “best” product to install in homes, it turned out this material was far from perfect causing floods, leaks and unnecessary damage to homes due to its weak structure and inability to stay secure.

polyb manifoldPoly-B is no longer in the BC Plumbing Code and is technically illegal to be in homes. Once it reaches its life span, it’s not a matter of if the water lines will break/burst, its a matter of when. While we don’t write this to scare you, it’s just the reality of this product. If you have had any issues with your Poly-B or know to have it in your house, we highly recommend replacing it in the near future with a more secure water line that doesn’t have the vulnerability of flooding & damaging your home.

Give us a call today and we will be more than happy to have a technician come over and provide you with a FREE estimate for replacement.

Poly-b Issues

The most common issues with Pol-B are the joints. The crimp ring that get pressed on the water lines tend to wear out very easily eventually causing a leak or burst pipe. Also, due to its weak structure, any main water line run under the ground is very susceptible to breaking due to ground shifting and movement. These tend to be the most common issues with this type of water line, but overall this type of material is unpredictable in nature and anything could happen at any time.

Cost to Replace Poly-B?

We need to be honest with you, Poly-B replacement is not a cheap fix nor is it a fast process. It requires re-piping your entire home and this can be a lengthy process(up to 1 week), but it will provide you with a permanent solution and allow you to sleep at night knowing your water lines have been replaced with something that will last you the rest of your life.

While its impossible to give you a price on this page due to the many variables that need to be taken into consideration when quoting, we are always willing to send a technician over to your house free of cost to give you an accurate estimation for replacement so you can move one step closer to solving your plumbing problems.
